The annual UNC Symposium for Research Administrators (Symposium) is an event designed to keep the campus research community informed on the latest policies, regulations, and best practices in sponsored program administration. Symposium is open to all administrators, faculty, and staff involved in research activities. Whether individuals work in central research or compliance offices, serve as department or clinical administrators, support financial operations, direct core facilities, or lead projects as principal investigators, the event provides valuable insights to strengthen their understanding of research administration and compliance at UNC. Fall Session: September 23 – 24
The Office of Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR) oversees, develops, and supports UNC Research, Carolina’s research enterprise. The office sets strategic priorities for research, manages proposals and awards, provides research infrastructure, identifies funding opportunities, develops research teams and partnerships, and oversees regulatory compliance, science and security, and ethics. OVCR has been integral in supporting these events through sponsorship, administrative management, and programmatic coordination since its inception in 2012. The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) partners with the research community to advance the University’s research mission by providing leadership and expertise in sponsored program administration. OSP is committed to ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and delivering the highest level of service and professionalism in support of UNC’s world‑class research. OSP has hosted all symposiums to date and continues to lead the organization and development of content for these events. The Research Administration Improvement, Strategy, & Education (RAISE) Office partners closely with faculty, staff, and research administrators across the UNC School of Medicine (SOM). Their goal is to simplify administrative processes, reduce burdens, and ensure compliance, so SOM can focus on research that changes lives. RAISE is the first stop for practical support, education, expert guidance, and efficient, standardized resources that help departments and units work smarter and achieve consistent, high-quality results.
